Pekin Ducks
Pekins are the most popular domesticated duck breed. This could be because they are very good dual purpose duck. They lay around 60-140 eggs a year and are a popular Chinese dish. They should not be overlooked for their docile personality however, many people choose the Pekin as their choice for pet ducks. When showing, the Pekin is classified as a heavy breed and should have more of a cream plumage (pure white is considered a minor defect). Many people confuse the Pekin with the Aylesbury. The Aylesbury has more of a pinkish bill, so if your Pekin has a more pinkish bill it probably has a small amount of Aylesbury in it. There are two main types of Pekin, the American Pekin and the European Pekin. The European breed stands in a more upright pose, much resembling that of a runner duck, while the American breed stands less upright.
